Blue and Yellow Quilted:Spring

Wow!!  It's been a month since I've updated my blog!! 

I've found it very difficult to get back into a regular routine 

after our west coast vacation. 

I have been crafting, but not posting to my blog ... 

so I have lots to share!!

Quilted:Spring stamps and dies are my new favourites!! 

They've been on my desk for several weeks now and 

I keep reaching for them for a variety of occasions! 

I've always liked blue and yellow together 

and used this combination to make a birthday card, 

 a small note card and a sympathy card.

Birthday Card

This card has several layers:

Stamper's Select White Card base

Stamper's Select White Front panel:  

 - cut with the Stitched Rectangles die;

 - sentiment (Keep It Simple: Birthdays); 

 - impressed with Aida Cloth Impression Plate; 

 - stitched with blue embroidery floss.

Quilt Block die 

The quilt was cut 3 times to create a multi-coloured look:

     1. White card stock was stamped with Blueberry Sky and Lemon Tart
     2. Blueberry Sky inserts - impressed with Aida Cloth Impression Plate 
     3. Lemon Tart Patterned Paper - frame was applied to the block.

 Flower Accent:

 Quick Stitch: Sewing Staples Kit dies 
- Harvest Gold felt stitched with blue embroidery floss

 Bitty Button Stacks 
 - coloured felt circle with a blue copic marker; 
stitched with yellow embroidery floss

Inside

The sentiments

(Movers & Shakers, and Purls of Wisdom) and a 
floral stamp (Sewing Staples) were added to the inside of the card. 

Quilt Block Note Card

The circle portion of the quilt block was leftover from the birthday card, 
so I used it to create a portion of the design for this card:

The circle was stamped (Polka Dot Basics & Blueberry Sky ink), then 
glued to a 3" square Blueberry Sky panel. This was then impressed 
with the Linen Impression Plate before adding the patterned paper inserts.

Bitty Button Stacks die cuts - card stock & patterned paper

Sewing Staples die - Six leaves die cut from green card stock

A 3 1/2" square card base was stamped with Autumn Pattern Pieces and Blueberry Sky ink. I thought that the pattern was too strong and competed with the quilt block, so I cut a vellum square and attached it to the card front.
You can see the original stamped background on the strip to the right of the card and how it is softened by adding the vellum.

Make It Monday #210 by Lizzie Jones.

Sympathy Card

Unfortunately a friend recently lost her husband.  

She lives in Alberta, so I wanted to send her a card and 

note to let her know that I'm thinking of her family. 

 I had been making several of the quilt blocks for cards 

and thought this would work for a sympathy card.

I kept this fairly simple.

All of the quilt block images were stamped directly onto a 

white card base with Blueberry Sky and Harvest Gold inks. 

The sentiment (Botanical Silhouettes) was stamped with 

Blueberry Sky ink, then card front was impressed 

with the Canvas Impression Plate. The frame 
(Bo Bunny Double Dot)  was attached to the front.

The flower was created by cutting several Bitty Button Stacks  

from blue and yellow papers, layering and stitching them 
together before adding them to the center of the quilt block.

Inside

The sentiment and small quilt block image  

(Quilter`s Sampler) were added to the inside of the card.

Birthday Envelope Surprise

Here's a "card" I made for my grand niece's 6th birthday.
I used Papertrey Ink's Envelope Zipper die and 
a variety of stamps and inks from my stash.

I started by creating an "envelope wrap", inspired by
the paper from "Love You to Pieces". 

I used stamps I already own to create my own version of a
 "zippered" envelope.  Stamper's Select White card stock 
was stamped to create these three panels:

Front: 

I die cut the front flap with the Envelope Zipper die, then created 

a mask in a heart shape in order to stamp  

Background Basics:Gingham with Crystal Blue ink. (Close To My Heart)

The fox (Wild About Love: Close To My Heart) was stamped 

with Raspberry Fizz ink; copic markers were used 

to create grass and colour the flower. 

The sentiments (Clear Dollar Stamps and Close To My Heart) 

were stamped with Orange and Crystal Blue inks. 

The heart was die cut from the Envelope Zipper die collection; 

then stamped with Pure Poppy ink using the 

Love You To Pieces Additions Mini Stamp set.

The Canvas Impression plate creates texture on the front panel.

Center Panel: 

The side flaps - Background Basics:Gingham in Orange ink; 

Small square sentiment stamped with Orange ink. 
(30 Years of Happy: Close To My Heart)

I created a square mask for the center of this panel in order 

to stamp Polka Dot Basics with Raspberry Fizz ink.
(I'm not happy with the polka dot stamping- not as straight as 
I would have liked!! I stamped and mailed this before I got MISTI, 
so I'm hoping future backgrounds will have a cleaner look!!)

Inside Panel

This photo illustrates the assembled envelope wrap with a 

small pocket that holds a surprise!! The sentiments 

(Back Pocket Basics) were stamped with Versamark, then 

heat embossed with Melon Mambo Embossing powder (SU).

Scor-Tape was place on the top flap below the "zipper". 

When the "card" is opened, the blue gingham edges 

will frame the "Love" sentiment.  

Vellum Pocket

I cut a strip of vellum, folded it in half and then used 

Stitching Lines die to create the stitching holes on either side. 

Pink embroidery floss secures the edges of the pocket.

The pocket has been filled with lots of confetti, cut from a 

variety of coloured card stock using Shakers and Sprinkles dies.

Papertrey Ink March 2015 Blop Hop & MIM #206

I'm slowly getting back into my craft room after a fun vacation.
I'm looking forward to playing with my paper and ink!!

I loved this month's inspiration photo for 
Papertrey Ink's Blog Hop: Aqua and Yellow ... 

... but I was also intrigued  by Danielle Flander's  

Make It Monday video: Stamping  and Mixing Patterns ....

so I combined the two challenges to make a baby card!!

I started by cutting the Cover Plate: Comic Strip die 

from Aqua Mist and Stamper's Select White card stock.

The aqua frame was glued to a white card base.

Using the tips and techniques from this week's MIM, 

several stamp sets and ink colours were chosen to 

stamp patterns onto the 5 white card stock pieces.
I used Aqua Mist and Lemon Tart inks, with an accent 
of Spring Moss on the Polka Dot panel.

Top Left Panel - Birthday Style, Polka Dot Basics

O'happy day

We're still on a holiday, but just wanted to 
drop by with a card that I made for St. Patrick's Day. 
My grandfather was from Ireland, so I have always 
thought of March 17th as an important day to celebrate.

Delightful Dahlia - Mistified!!

The first thing I wanted to try with my new MISTI 

(Most Incredible Stamping Tool Invented) 

was the multi-step flowers from Delightful Dahlia stamp set. 

I've never been able to line these images up - until now!! 

And because it was so awesome, I decided to make a card set 

using a design by Nichole Heady ((from this post). 

All together I stamped 12 large and 12 small flowers - 

each with the three step stamps!!

I think I was making up for lost time with this set!!

PINK FLOWERS:

Inks: Pure Poppy, Hibiscus Burst & Sweet Blush inks.

 White adhesive pearls accent the flower centers.

Leaves: Fine Linen ink.

(full strength and stamped off once to create a shadow effect.)

Sentiments: Dark Chocolate ink.

Card bases: Hibiscus Burst . 

 All white panels were impressed with the Canvas Impression Plate.

 Sentiment: Mum's the Word

The inside of the cards were lined with white 

card stock and stamped with the small dahlia.

  I decided to give this set of cards to my future daughter-in-law when we visited with them earlier this month. I created a little gift box and tag to co-ordinate with the set.

The box was created with one piece of Hibiscus Burst card stock 

and some trial and error!! I wished I had made note of the measurements so I could refer to them if I wanted to make this again, but I was in a hurry to finish this before we left on our trip. All six cards and envelopes fit nicely into the box.

A Tag Sale #8 was used to create the tag 

and a white ribbon and bow are the finishing touches. 

 I stamped the outline image from the original Delightful Dahlias 

onto a piece of white card stock (cut with the 2nd die from Tag Sale #8) 

with Memento Tuxedo Black ink, so I could colour with copics. 

The leaves (Sending You) were added with Spring Moss ink.

The sentiments (Just For You) are stamped with Dark Chocolate ink.

I used the Linen Impression Plate to create some interest and 

then added this panel to patterned paper tag.

So Happy For You

When my son called to announce his engagement, I knew I wanted to make a special card for the couple. Since we were planning a trip to visit him (he lives in Vancouver) I wanted to take something with us. The gold embossed and blue background paper was inspired by a Papertrey Ink forum member. (Thanks Merry!!)

Here's what I did:
1. Basic Backgrounds:Medallions stamped with Moonstruck Blue (Close To My Heart). The 2nd set of circles was stamped with Versamark and then heat embossed with Gold Detail Embossing Powder on white card stock. This panel was attached to a royal blue card base (from my stash). 
2. Tag Sale #8 was cut from the same blue card stock with the center cut out to create a frame. 
3. A second tag was cut from white card stock and then stamped with a sentiment from Mini Blooms (So Happy) and "For You" from Doodlie Do using Versamark and gold embossing powder. 
4. The birds (Heart-2-Heart #9) were stamped with Moonstruck Blue; hearts (Love Lives Here) with Pure Poppy.
5. The tag was attached to the frontpanel with foam adhesive to create dimension.
6. I created the strips of gold paper by heat embossing them with gold embossing powder and then tucking them under the tag on both side.
7. A small white ribbon finishes the tag.

8. The inside of the card uses the same technique using the smaller stamps from the Medallion set to create a band across the white panel. 
9. The sentiment frame (Pretty Peonies) was die cut and then stamped with Moonstruck Blue. 
10. The sentiment was created using a portion of a sentiment from Tinsel and Tags: House Additions (Congratulations on your) and the word "engagement" using Sans Alphabet (Close To My Heart). These were heat embossed with gold embossing powder.

Papertrey Ink February 2015 Blog Hop

When I saw the inspiration picture for this blog hop, 
I knew I had to find some time to play along!! 
(You can see all of the details here.)

My husband and I are heading out this morning for a trip to visit my youngest son and his fiance in Vancouver and then on to a ten day trip to Hawaii. We're so looking forward to some warm days and sunny skies!!
My husband was packing and I was in my craft room making this card!

I started with a piece of water colour paper and LOTS of different colours of ink pads to create the background piece. I smooshed various inks onto an acrylic block, added some water and then painted the paper with a brush. 
It was fun playing watching the magic happen!!

Before assembling the card, I sprayed the background paper with Stampin'Up Vanilla Shimmer Smooching Spritzer. It creates a subtle effect, but is so pretty.  
I cut this paper into a standard 4 1/4" x 5 1/2" piece and still had a strip left over. I turned this 'leftover' into a sentiment banner by cutting a Double-ended Banner die, stamped with a sentiment from Delightful Dahlias with Smokey Shadow ink.
The Quatrefoil Cover Plate was cut from Stamper's Select White card stock and layered over the background paper.

I cut the leaf and flower dies (Pretty Peonies) from water colour paper, heat embossed with white embossing powder and then used the same technique as above to colour the images. I layered several die cuts in order to create dimension and then added them to the sentiment banner.
