It's time for another Papertrey Ink Blog Hop.

 

This month we were challenged to make a packaging project using fabric or felt and PTI dies. The inspiration photo and Nichole's  outline provided me with a few ideas:

It's all about wrapping it up.  Whether you are preparing early for the holidays or have an upcoming birthday or two, try experimenting with fabric & felt packaging ideas.  Use any of our Favor It dies with felt and a little hot glue gun action or stitching.  Use a pretty piece of fabric like you would wrapping paper and make a custom tag to coordinate with it.  Not into sewing or gluing?  Wrap a kitchen towel or cloth napkin around a special bottle of wine and top it off with a hand-stamped gift label.  Or rip a strip of fabric to use in  place of ribbon and finish it with a pretty handmade gift card. 

 

 I loved the idea of creating a little "pouch" to hold a small piece of jewellery. Since I just finished making several Friendship Bracelets (based on Papertrey Ink's Stamp-A-Faire Challenge)  I thought it would be fun to see if I could use a variety of PTI dies to create a felt pouch. The bracelets that I made here  used Raspberry Fizz ink, so I knew I wanted to use it here for an accent colour.

 

 I started by cutting two pieces of white felt using the Library Card Tag die. One of the felt pieces was cut so that it would become the front pouch. I decorated it with Raspberry Fizz felt snowflakes, cut from the Winter Penguin Die collection. The smaller of the two snowflakes looks more like a little flower, but I decided to 'go with it'!! Each of these pieces was glued to the white felt with a liquid adhesive and then a mini pearl was added.

Here's the 'back' of the pouch, showing the full size of the Library Card Tag. The two pieces were stitched together using a bright pink embroidery floss with a blanket stitch. You can see the white reinforcement around the hole at the top of the tag. I wanted to thread a ribbon through this, but I was concerned that the felt would stretch out. I cut two card stock circles from the Tag Sale #1 die and glued them on the front and back of the felt opening.

A small ribbon was added to the front (handed stitched in place) so that it can be pulled through and tied on the top flap of the pouch. 

You can see a small semicircle that was cut out of this portion ... I thought I would need this to make it easier to retrieve the bracelet inside  (originally I was going to mount the bracelet onto a piece of card stock). If I were to make this again, I wouldn't make this cut. 

You could used Velcro to create a closure for this pouch and then decorate the front of the pouch with a button or flowers.

Anniversary Wishes - Hearts & Patches

My crafting mojo has been on a little vacation, but I'm back with a project that I finally finished this week. After viewing this video from Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday #70: Puffed Fabric Accents  (June 11, 2012).  I decided to make an anniversary card - a number of family members have summer anniversaries, so I thought this would be a good start.

My colour scheme was determined by the fabric that I chose for the puffy heart - red, white and light blue. Originally I was going to use a Confetti White card base and add the details on top of that. However, I had some difficulty using the Canvas Impression Plate, so I ended up cutting the impressed card stock and attaching it to the Pure Poppy card base.

Some of the other details include:

* The sentiment (Love Lives Here) was stamped with Pure Poppy.

* A Heart Print Die was used to cut an opening in a 2.25" circle  (Limitless Layers Circles) This circle was stamped with a leaf image from Just for You, using Bashful Blue ink. (Stampin'Up)

* Two pieces of white felt were cut slightly smaller than the heart and mounted under the checkered fabric scrap. This created the 'puffy' heart. A blue felt 'button' was cut from Button Up Die #2. A red heart brad was attached in the center.

* The focal image was attached to a Spring Rain Limitless Layers scalloped circle. Faux stitching was hand drawn around these edges using a blue marker.

* Nestabilities Label #11 was die cut and then stamped with Background Basics: Gingham using Pure Poppy ink. The edges were machine sewn.

* The main focal image was mounted onto the gingham background.

* The Hearts Border Die was used to cut two borders: 

1. Pure Poppy border was cut in half (upper and lower) and positioned  onto the gingham panel so that a mat was created for the blue hearts.

2. Spring Rain - border was embossed with SU Square Lattice Textured folder.

I had fun creating the inside of the card too! 
* Confetti White card stock was used
* Edges were stitched with red thread 

* A strip of square patches was added to the bottom of the card. This was created by stamping the gingham pattern (Pure Poppy) and the leaf design (Bashful Blue) on scraps of card stock and then using a 5/8" punch. Each square was edged with ink before being glued and then sewn into place. 

 * The sentiment (Quilter's Sampler & Mat Stack 3 Collection) was selectively stamped with both ink colours to tie in with the colour scheme.

Floral Birthday Card with a Twist!!

      It's been quiet on my blog over the last few weeks. But . . . I have been working on lots of projects - just haven't finished many of them!!

That always seems to happen when I have too many ideas and not enough uninterrupted time.  I start a project and then set it aside because something else has 'caught my fancy'. 
     I finally finished this card after fussing with it for several days. I saw this "Hello Friend" card on Michelle Wooderson's blog and thought I would CASE it. I don't do very well when I'm trying to duplicate someone's work - it never seems to turn out the way I think it should. Sometimes I just don't have the right stamps, tools, paper or embellishments. That's when I have to "give up the dream" and try to work out something with the supplies I have on hand.

Here's the Twist

  Michelle often uses fabric on her cards, but on her sample, she used paper that looked like a floral fabric. Instead of paper I used a pretty pink and yellow fabric on my card; that's what you can see on the two small pinked squares and the scalloped edges. I was surprised how well the dies cut through the fabric pieces - I definitely will be doing this again, since I have a large stash of fabrics!!

Here's an overview of all the card details. Stamps, dies and the impression plate are from Papertrey Ink, inks are from Close to My Heart and most of the papers are odds and ends from my scrap pile!

Card Base: 

Pink card stock stamped with Tin Types in Hollyhock ink

White Card Front:

Linen Impression Plate was used to create a 'fabric effect'

Stamps and Dies: 

A sentiment from Floral Fusion #1 was stamped with Hollyhock ink.

Background Basics: Gingham was stamped above the sentiment using Sunny Yellow ink.  The Gingham stamp from Bitty Background Blocks was stamped in yellow ink and then two  1" squares were cut using an EK Success punch. These were layered onto floral fabric that was cut using the pinked square die from the Button Card Die  Collection. 

Other Details 

Flowers: 

Stampin'Up's Boho Flower punch was used to create the pink flowers. After they were punched out I crumpled the paper, layered two large and one small flower and then added a small yellow button with embroidery floss to the center of the flowers.  For another detail a small green leaf image from an EK Success punch was added to each flower.

Borders: 

The Banners Border Die was used to cut three scalloped borders from the floral fabric, and then they were positioned on the card with one scalloped edge facing up and two overlapping down.  A white ribbon and bow were placed over the edges of the borders to cover the 'seam'. I tried to create a 'splattered' effect on the ribbon using the yellow ink pad. (Michelle used Mr. Huey spray mist to make the splatters on her ribbon)

The Final Touch:

Three brads were added to the left side of the sentiment for some balance. The colours - pink, yellow and green were chosen to co-ordinate with the colours in the floral print.

    Here's the inside of the card with a sentiment from the Big Birthday Wishes  set and the happy birthday sentiment from Little Bitty Birds, with Hollyhock ink.

The flower from Flower Fusion #1 was stamped with Hollyhock and Garden Green inks.

I used my new Dotted Scallop punch to create 'grass' and added that below the flower and sentiment. Yellow ink was sponged around the edges of the upper card and within the sentiment panel. Garden Green was sponged around the bottom portion.

There's lots of room to add a little note when I'm ready to give this to the birthday girl.
