Thank You Notecards

I've been busy with a few projects for my 
son's upcoming wedding in October. 
My future daughter-in-law asked for a set of cards 
for wedding gift thank-you notes. 
Here's the final set, packaged up and ready to use.

 

I made a total of 60 (3 1/2" x 4 7/8") 
A1 cards using a variety of stamps.

The wedding colours are blue and rust , so this was

my inspiration. A floral image from Vintage Vogue (Stampin'Up) 

 was stamped with Moonstruck Blue (Close To My Heart); 

stamped again with VersaMark and 

then heat embossed with Clear Embossing powder. 

The floral center was stamped with Canyon Clay ink.

The green lines were added with Simply Chartreuse ink 

using an image from Button Boutique. 

The sentiment (Star Prints) was stamped with blue ink 

and VersaMark and heat embossed as well. 

It is a simple and clean look that was important 

since I was making so many cards.

A small blue box from the Dollar Store was a perfect fit for 

two stacks of cards and matching envelopes. 

I'm going to add a pen and some stamps, so the busy couple 

will have everything they need to write their Thank you notes.

I added a tag using Tag Sale #11, cut from 

Canyon Clay and white card stock. The floral image 

and sentiment was added to the white panel. 

The small circle was created by stamping '60'  

(Mini Scrapbooking:Tabs) and 'cards' 

(Moments Inked: Planner Banners). 

I punched this out using a circle punch, 

then inked the edge before adhering it to the tag.

Blue and Yellow Quilted:Spring

Wow!!  It's been a month since I've updated my blog!! 

I've found it very difficult to get back into a regular routine 

after our west coast vacation. 

I have been crafting, but not posting to my blog ... 

so I have lots to share!!

Quilted:Spring stamps and dies are my new favourites!! 

They've been on my desk for several weeks now and 

I keep reaching for them for a variety of occasions! 

I've always liked blue and yellow together 

and used this combination to make a birthday card, 

 a small note card and a sympathy card.

Birthday Card

This card has several layers:

Stamper's Select White Card base

Stamper's Select White Front panel:  

 - cut with the Stitched Rectangles die;

 - sentiment (Keep It Simple: Birthdays); 

 - impressed with Aida Cloth Impression Plate; 

 - stitched with blue embroidery floss.

Quilt Block die 

The quilt was cut 3 times to create a multi-coloured look:

     1. White card stock was stamped with Blueberry Sky and Lemon Tart
     2. Blueberry Sky inserts - impressed with Aida Cloth Impression Plate 
     3. Lemon Tart Patterned Paper - frame was applied to the block.

 Flower Accent:

 Quick Stitch: Sewing Staples Kit dies 
- Harvest Gold felt stitched with blue embroidery floss

 Bitty Button Stacks 
 - coloured felt circle with a blue copic marker; 
stitched with yellow embroidery floss

Inside

The sentiments

(Movers & Shakers, and Purls of Wisdom) and a 
floral stamp (Sewing Staples) were added to the inside of the card. 

Quilt Block Note Card

The circle portion of the quilt block was leftover from the birthday card, 
so I used it to create a portion of the design for this card:

The circle was stamped (Polka Dot Basics & Blueberry Sky ink), then 
glued to a 3" square Blueberry Sky panel. This was then impressed 
with the Linen Impression Plate before adding the patterned paper inserts.

Sewing Staples die - Six leaves die cut from green card stock

A 3 1/2" square card base was stamped with Autumn Pattern Pieces and Blueberry Sky ink. I thought that the pattern was too strong and competed with the quilt block, so I cut a vellum square and attached it to the card front.
You can see the original stamped background on the strip to the right of the card and how it is softened by adding the vellum.

This technique was highlighted in Papertrey Ink's 

Make It Monday #210 by Lizzie Jones.

Sympathy Card

Unfortunately a friend recently lost her husband.  

She lives in Alberta, so I wanted to send her a card and 

note to let her know that I'm thinking of her family. 

 I had been making several of the quilt blocks for cards 

and thought this would work for a sympathy card.

I kept this fairly simple.

All of the quilt block images were stamped directly onto a 

white card base with Blueberry Sky and Harvest Gold inks. 

The sentiment (Botanical Silhouettes) was stamped with 

Blueberry Sky ink, then card front was impressed 

with the Canvas Impression Plate. The frame 
(Bo Bunny Double Dot)  was attached to the front.

The flower was created by cutting several Bitty Button Stacks  

from blue and yellow papers, layering and stitching them 
together before adding them to the center of the quilt block.

Inside

The sentiment and small quilt block image  

(Quilter`s Sampler) were added to the inside of the card.

Papertrey Ink: Metallic Challenge

I've been busy with another project for the 8th Anniversary Celebrations at Papertrey Ink.The focus for Day 7 was metallics - gold and silver papers and foils were featured. You can see all of these wonderful products here.

 

Day 7 Challenge: 

I like colour. I like bright colours. 
But today we were to limit our design to the use of neutrals 
along with gold or silver metallics. 
I found a small piece of gold paper in my scrap stash 
and decided to cut a word die with it. 

Once I finished making one note card, 
I went ahead and made 3 more, 
since one little bitty card just wasn't enough!! 

Each card measures 3" x 4"

I had enough gold paper to cut 2 "you" die cuts and 
2 "note" die cuts from Wet Paint II Die Collection. 
Time to get more gold and silver paper!!

The white card with black stamping and gold sentiments needed an accent, since they looked too plain. (remember, I'm a colour kind of girl). 
Lots of Gold Dot Sparklers in two different sizes (from my stash)  
were added to the right of the sentiment.

Papertrey Ink August 2014 Blog Hop

 

It's time for Papertrey Ink's monthly Blog Hop Challenge (details here).  Nichole Heady provided this inspiration photo from Kate Spade's stationary line and challenged us to make a postcard style project. Here are some of the other suggestions:

• Create a bold border using the chisel tip of a marker
• Gold embossed polka dots!
• A gold embossed sentiment on a crisp white card.
• A simple color scheme  - white with  a splash of colour
• Create a fun and festive envelope liner for your card.

I made a little note card and envelope.

I used the Striped Hibiscus Burst Patterned Paper to make an envelope liner. 

You can see the note card  peeking out of the envelope!!

I choose a simple colour scheme:

with a "splash" of Hibiscus Burst

The Library Card Die was cut once as a full card and then a narrow piece of white card stock and another of striped paper was cut from the bottom portion to avoid the tag die hole and allow me to create the top focal panel.

Fruits of Summer: Part 2

I love all of the colour schemes in this month's Papertrey Ink Blog Hop Challenge - it was a hard decision to pick just one, so I created a second 

project using this inspiration photo:

     I made a set of four square note cards (3 5/8") using Irresistibly Ikat. Once I figured out the design and colour position, these were fast and easy to create. They really do remind me of all the bright citrus colours of oranges, grapefruits, lemons and limes!! 

After stamping the background and sentiment they were impressed with the Canvas Impression Plate. Each card uses one of the sentiments stamped with Orange ink.

Oh Happy Day Butterflies

In  this post  I showed a card using Cover Plate: Circles and  Boy Basics: Rock On. After cutting the cover plate from Rustic White card stock, I used the circles for the card. This left me with the white frame, so I decided to do some experimenting.

I cut away some of the frame so I was left with a smaller section.

I originally stamped it with Text Style using Hibiscus Burst, but 

didn't like it and ended by sponging some Smokey Shadow ink 

over top to create additional texture. If you look closely, you 

might see some of the pink showing through in several places.

 

I cut the white card base (4 1/4" x 3 1/2" card) to fit the circle frame 

section and then mounted the framed panel onto the card base. 

I stamped a butterfly image (Butterfly Dreams) directly onto the 

white card base, centering them inside the circle frames. 

The butterfly was stamped with 16 different inks for an ombre effect. 

(see below for ink colours).  The top images/lightest colours (Hibiscus Burst, 

Lavender Moon, Spring Rain, Aqua Mist) were created by stamping off once.  

The antenna were added with Smokey Shadow ink

I cut one circle from white card stock and stamped it with the 

sentiment (Mini Blooms). To add an aged effect I over stamped 

the card front with Fine Linen ink and the Crackled Mini stamp. 

A Harvest Gold butterfly die was added to the sentiment circle.

I used another sentiment from Mini Blooms and 5 
ink colours to create a colourful interior: ENJOY your DAY!  

These sentiments lend themselves to a variety of celebrations ...

 anniversary, birthday, promotion, retirement or graduation.

Inspired by SAF: Mini Notecards

Papertrey Ink held a "Stamp-a-Faire Summer Camp" event on July 21st,
highlighting many techniques, videos and tutorials and encouraging  
crafters to enter cards and projects for each of the challenges. Even 
though I had planned to participate, I just didn't get anything finished 
in time for the challenge deadlines!!  I have been highlighting lots of 
projects inspired by the Stamp-a-Faire videos and techniques this week. 
I hope you have enjoyed looking back at some of these fun challenges.

There were so many great examples of card sets from the Papertrey Ink design team members for this challenge, but I was really fascinated by the mini cards made by Danielle Flanders in this blog post.  Even though I didn't have the Half and Half die she used to make her cards, I managed to duplicate these with some of my supplies.

The finished size of each card is 2" x 2 3/8".

Five colours were chosen and the details repeated on each one.

Lemon Tart

 Polka Dot Basics was stamped on the front and back of the white card stock.
A Dotted Scallop border punch was used along the bottom front edge and then a score line was made just above the dotted section.

Orange

 The tags were cut with Tiny Tags star die from the various colours. Each one was stamped with the matching colour, using a small flourish stamp. Rustic Jute twine was coloured with a copic marker (C9) and then wrapped around the upper portion of the card two times. The tag was attached and tied with a bow. In order to hold the star in place, I used a dot of foam adhesive.

Hibiscus Burst

 Black ink was used to stamp the sentiment.

Spring Moss

Each card fits neatly into a mini envelope - the Lunchbox Note Die was cut from Vellum. Each side was stitched with matching thread to create the pocket.

Aqua Mist

Mini Cards were tucked into Vellum envelopes.

Packaging

 I made a little box to hold the mini card set. The finished size of box is 3" wide; 2" high; 3/4" depth. Five note cards/envelopes fit nicely into this size.

Start with a 4 1/2" x 4 3/4"  True Black piece of card stock; embossed with Swiss Dots folder.
On the 4 3/4" length -  score 2 " in from each side. This will leave a 3/4" center that will become the bottom of the box.
On the 4 1/2" section, score 3/4" from each edge. This will become the vertical sides of the box and leave a 3" wide front and back.

Embellishment Details
I cut the coloured card stock from the star die (Tiny Tags) and stamped them in the same way as the note card stars. The last star was cut from white card stock and stamped with the pattern and sentiment from the Tiny Tags stamp set. Each star was tied to the white Baker's Twine with a piece of silk thread.

Here's the final set: Note cards & Envelopes and the matching box.

This might be fun to give out on New Year's Eve and ask everyone to write down one wish for the upcoming year. Or it could be used for someone celebrating a birthday - each person attending could write down a wish they have for the birthday guy or gal!! I really enjoyed making these mini cards and have a few other ideas for using this design in the future.

Inspired by SAF: Tie Dye Techniques

Papertrey Ink held a "Stamp-a-Faire Summer Camp" event on July 21st,

Nichole Heady outlined a variety of techniques to create background papers that resemble a 'tie-dye' effect. I chose to make papers using the  Shaving Foam Technique.i don't have many re-inkers for this method so I used yellow and green food colouring and a Crystal Blue re-inker (Close To My Heart).

Here's the final result of the various papers 

that I made with this technique. What fun!!

I made 2 cards with the papers - one uses the paper as a background and the other uses some of the paper in die cut details. With some of the left over paper I cut out some leaves with my (new to me) Leaf Prints dies. I hope to use them on other projects in the future!

 

Card #1: Day Dreamer

Rustic White card stock (SU) was used as the card base and then the tie-dye panel was mounted onto the base.

Sentiment Panel

The sentiment panel was made to resemble one of the Half and Half dies, by partially cutting the curved tip of a Nestabilities Label #9 die and then hand cutting the sides. I stamped the sentiment (Daydreamer) onto this panel with Twilight ink and then added the vines (Just for You) in Sunny Yellow and the green dots (Harvest Berries) in Clover Meadow. Rustic Jute twine was looped several times and a yellow star button was tied to the loopy bow; then mounted on the top of the panel.

Interior

The larger frame from Framed Out #5 was inked with yellow and green inks. The interior frame, arrow and sentiment were stamped with Twilight ink.

Card #2: Lovely Layers Anniversary Card

I started with a card base made from Stamper's Select White. The front of the card was embossed using the Cuttlebug D'vine Swirls Embossing folder.The sentiment panel was created with one of the Photo Finishers die and stamped with Clover Meadow ink using the sentiment from Pretty Peonies. Three amber rhinestones accent one side of the sentiment.

The focal panel was made by cutting a green and white square with Nestabilities: Classic Squares. The white layer was embossed around the edges.
 The patterned paper was used as the leaf layer from Lovely Layers die collection and then the leaf veins were stamped on top of the pattern.
The next layer was die cut from green card stock and embossed with white embossing powder.
The flowers were also die cut and then stamped with Sunny Yellow and Clover Meadow inks. All of these layers were mounted with foam adhesives to give lots of dimension.
