A few months ago I purchased the Year of the Flower Collection from Papertrey Ink with the idea of using the poinsettia image for Christmas cards. I decided to make a set of 8 cards for my stash and I'm really pleased with the results.
I wanted a simple, but elegant card that would be easy to mail out to family and friends. I started by stamping the flower image on Bella card stock so that I could colour it with copic markers. After finishing all the red colouring, I felt it needed a bit of contrast. So .... I masked the flower and restamped three separate "leaves" using the original image. It was a bit of work, but I really like the final look - the green leaves add just the right amount of colour.
The Seed Packet Frame die was cut from Pure Poppy card stock, stamped with Versamark with the frame image from Garden Variety and then embossed with Gold embossing powder. The sentiment, "Sending You", from Simple Sunflower and the 'holiday wishes" from Holiday Tags 2010 were added with the same embossing details.
The white front card panel was embossed with Stampin'Up's Petals a Plenty embossing folder and then each dot in the center of the poinsettia and throughout the embossed panel were coloured with a Sakura Gold Metallic pen. This was also used to colour in the centers of the focal image flower as well. The front panel was then adhered to the Pure Poppy card base.
The gold ribbon and little gold Stamping Bella dot was added to the top of the seed packet frame before attaching it to the prepared background panel.
I kept the inside of the card very simple, by stamping a sentiment from Holiday Wishes onto a white panel, using CTMH Cranberry ink.
