1st Birthday with Cupcake Phillip

One of my grand nephews will be turning 1 in August, so thought I would get a 'jump' on his card this week. I can't believe that it's already the middle of July.
I still have several cards to make for July birthdays, but I need some inspiration for those!!   Must figure it out soon though!!

Here's the card I created for Nathan. He's a real little boy, so thought I would start with some bright colours that I pulled from the "true blue" paper pack from My Mind's Eye. I used coordinating patterned papers for the large numbered mat on the card base, for the ledger paper behind the main image, and the argyle pattern on Cupcake Phillip's little shirt.

Here's a close up of the little birthday boy. I paper pieced the shirt and the cupcake icing. The rest of the images were coloured with copics and then fussy cut. I used some yellow Stickles on the flame of the birthday candle.
The bench was glued directly to the ledger paper and then the main image was attached with foam dimensionals. The edge of the paper was sponged with orange ink and then mounted on orange and Seaweed card stock.

The sentiment, from Little Bitty Bird was stamped in Close to My Heart's Orange and Twilight inks onto the ledger paper cut with the Double Ended Banner die. ( I cut off one end of the banner in order to get the size I needed to fit the image)  The orange mat was also cut from this die, but in order to get all the different sized layers I cut the sentiment panel a little bit on on the top and bottom edges and then attached it to the orange banner. This in turn was glued to a piece of  Seaweed card stock and then hand cut to allow for a small reveal all around.
The little tag was cut with Tiny Tags die and stamped with the matching image and sentiment from the Tiny Tags stamp set. A matching button (from my sewing stash) was tied with some baker's twine and then attached to the end of the banner, along with the tiny tag.

The inside of the card needed some attention, so I added a piece of Confetti White card stock that had been stamped with Polka Dot Basics using Twilight ink.  I left a little space at the bottom for a hand written note.
The cupcake, from Tiny Treats:Valentine was stamped directly on the card stock and then coloured.
The main sentiment, from Big Birthday Wishes was stamped on to another piece of ledger paper and then the number "1" was die cut using PTI's By the Numbers. The edges were sponged in Orange ink before adding the orange card stock matting.

Karen, this is so cute! I have so many comments, LOL: Great paper piecing & coloring (argyle sweater--gaaa!); great pp choices; love the banner & tiny tag; I always use yellow stickles for candle flames too!; I used the same exact "look who's turning 1" on my niece's first birthday card! I haven't posted it yet. I love when GMTA! Whew! :-D
