The Challenge:   New Year's Resolution

With the new year comes a clean slate along with many resolutions.  This month's blog hop challenge involves challenging yourself to use a Papertrey stamp set that has yet to see ink or even one that might be collecting a little dust! Go through your stash and see what little used treasure it might hold.  2011 is the year where what's old is new again!

     The Tea for Two set had been on my Wish List for a long time and I finally received it as a Christmas gift. This is the first card that I attempted with this set and I must say that it was a challenge. I have seen so many people use vintage doilies with this set and I really wanted to try that, but after several days of trial and error I just couldn't seem to make it work. 

Here's the card and a little tea bag pouch I made for my sister-in-law's birthday. She LOVES tea, so I know she will appreciate this little giftie!!

     I started by making the background paper on the bottom portion of the card, with a small medallion from Places, Please using Garden Green and Star Spangled Blue inks (CTMH). The small dot between each medallion was created using the smallest polka dot from Polka Dot Basics I.  I used a gold metallic pen to highlight each dot as well as a variety of dots on the rest of the card.

     The inverted scallop matting and one of the banner borders were cut from vanilla card stock and stamped with Text Style using the Vintage Tea Dye - Chamomile. The edges were distressed with both Chamomile and Chai inks. I also used the PTI Banner Border to make the green border and a thin rectangular piece (this acts as a 'table top').

     The Teapot die was used to cut the teapot, stamped with a polka dot image from Tea for Two and then mounted onto the card with dimensionals. The sentiment - from Mega Mixed Messages was stamped with blue ink and trimmed with Tea Dye Duo; a gold metallic eyelet was added and the panel was tied to the teapot handle with a thin piece of vanilla ribbon. The 'steam' from the teapot spout was created using 4 Stamping Bella gold dots.

 The inside of the card uses a sentiment from the Big Birthday Wishes set and a little medallion from Places, Please.

While making the Tea Bag Pouch I found that the new PTI Lunch Box Note Die and the Library Pocket Die are a perfect match. 

     I die cut the Library Pocket in blue card stock and used score tape to hold it securely on the inside of the Lunch Box Note.
The Tea for Two Label die was cut, stamped and attached to the little pocket.




     In order to hold the note closed over the tea bag, I added a little blue 'belly band' and then a label. The Friendship Jar Label was die cut, stamped with the matching frame image and then the medallion from Places, Please was stamped into the center so that it matches the card.

Happy Birthday Payton

My little grand niece celebrated her second birthday in the middle of January.

Here's the card I made for Payton, using a variety of stamps.

 

     "Pumpkin Emma"  from C.C. Designs  was stamped onto PTI Stamper's Select White card stock with the pumpkin images masked out, leaving an 'empty' wagon. I then stamped two little cupcakes from PTI's Tiny Treats: Valentine in the wagon. The images were then coloured with copic markers. PTI Polka Dot Basics was stamped in CTMH Sunny Yellow as a background on the white card stock.

     The vertical birthday sentiment (Close to My Heart) was stamped on a strip of patterned paper and then added to the right side of the card. The number 2  from PTI's Outlines Alphabet was stamped onto PTI  Berry Sorbet card stock and then cut out. I used a glue pen and DecorArt Glamour Dust to add a little sparkle to thenumber.

     I layered several different papers from the Sassafrass wee bundle "count me in" in colours of yellow, pink, and sorbet on a PTI Harvest Gold card base.

     
When Payton saw the small flower and button accent, she pointed to it and said "SUN". I put the flower there because the empty space needed a little something, something - never planned for a SUN!!   Smart little girl!

I used little poem that I found on the internet for the inside of the card - just the perfect sentiment for a sweet little 2 year old girl. I layered the Nestability die cut onto a Berry Sorbet mat before attaching it to the card base.

And finally ... here's the little book bag I made for Payton. Originally it was supposed to be a Christmas present, but it was one of the things that I didn't finish in time.  It's similar to the one I made for another grand niece who lives in New Zealand. I posted about that one in December here.

One Layer - One Colour Thank You

  In early December I read a post by a member on the PTI forum offering a stamp set from Papertrey Ink called Silent Night. I left a comment about the offer and was so surprised and pleased when I found that I had been chosen to receive this gift!
     The stamp set arrived just after Christmas, so thought I would have to tuck it away until next year. The set contains some beautiful sentiments for the season, but it also has a gorgeous flourish image.

Here is the Thank You card I made using the flourish as my inspiration.

 

     This simple one layer, one colour card was somewhat of a challenge for me, but I am really pleased with the final result. I combined the flourish image with a star and sentiment from Star Prints. After stamping the images I used the PTI Canvas impression plate  to create some added texture on the card stock.
     I used a combination of Versamark and Close to My Heart Twilight ink and then added Iridescent Ice embossing powder on top of the star image for some added glitter.  I then cut the star out and added it to the card with dimensionals. The final accent was a small pink dot from Stamping Bella on the star and beside the sentiment.

Hello Little Baby

      I received an e-mail this week-end that my niece (in New Zealand) had her second daughter. She was due to have the baby on December 29th, but that little bundle just didn't want to be a December baby!!  (She was 17 days late!)

     My Sister-in-law left Canada the middle of December and was my courier for Christmas and baby gifts. This is the tag I made to go onto the gift bag I sent (filled with little pink clothes!!)

     The little monkey is from a set called Itzie Inkies Flower Power from C.C. Designs.  I stamped and coloured the image with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and copic markers. I also added a little dab of Yellow Stickles to the centers of each of the daisies.
     A Nestabilites die was used to cut out the three layers. The largest layer was white cardstock that I stamped using Papertrey Ink's Polka Dots Basics in pink and the next layer was a piece of polka dot paper I had left over from another project. All of the layers were sponged with the pink ink.
Three little pearls were placed just below the sentiment (from Stampin'Up).

     I made a baby girl and baby boy card earlier this year - one of them went to a niece who had a baby boy in August and this one went to New Zealand in anticipation of baby girl's arrival.

Beautiful Blooms II Birthday

      After the holidays I needed to move away from winter/Christmas colours and images. So ... I found some pinks, oranges, and yellows to make this birthday card for a Papertrey Ink forum member - one of my "Post Its"  friends.
 

     I started by stamping several images from Beautiful Blooms II (Papertrey Ink) in pink and orange with bright yellow centers. My colour inspiration came from the striped ribbon - lots of pinks, yellow and orange!!
      I wanted the images to have some added dimension, so I used the matching dies to cut out some pink and orange felt (some that I've had in my sewing stash for years!!) and then layered the paper images on top of the felt. A little flower punch was used to make the center of the flowers and a white brad holds all the layers together. The green leaves were stamped from BB II and cut out for each of the flowers.
     I used the Cuttlebug Swiss Dots embossing folder on white card stock and then layered it onto a pink base. The sentiment (from Just the Ticket: PTI) was stamped and then punched with a Stampin'Up punch. All the edges of the white card stock were sponged with some pink.

     The Fillable Frames #5 stamp and die were used for the sentiment - I combined two phrases from Everyday Button Bits.

Birthday Yvette

     Welcome to a New Year of cards and projects. Hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season. I've put my "holiday" supplies away and can hardly wait to get inky with all my new Christmas presents - stamps, felt, dies, stickers and paper packs. 

     This card was made last fall - notice the green grass behind the card!!  I had just bought Yvette from Stamping Bella and wanted to make a birthday card for one of my nieces and knew that I would have it in my stash when the time came to send it off! This one is heading to New Zealand for a birthday at the end of January.

Yvette makes me smile - she's in such a happy mood.

     I started with the patterned paper mounted on pink card stock and then a white card base. The image was stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and coloured with copic markers. And then (call me crazy) I carefully cut around the detailed image so it could be mounted onto the card. I even coloured the three little flowers with my markers so they would match, and then added the little pearls in the center. The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink Mega Mixed Messages stamped in pink onto yellow cardstock, punched with a circle punch, mounted onto a circle of pink cardstock and then accented with a little pink ribbon. I also used a photo corner punch to add the pink cardstock to the corners of the card.

The inside of the card was also decorated with more patterned paper, pink 'faux' stitching and a basket image from Clear Dollar Stamps. The sentiments are from Papertrey Ink - Everyday Button Bits and Vintage Picnic Sentiments.

Snowman Gift Tag and Card

     It's hard to believe another year has come and gone. 2010 meant a few changes for me - I started this blog to document my adventures in card making and other crafts.  I also bought my first Papertrey Ink stamps, dies and paper and have been completely smitten with all the creativity of the design team and the loyal followers of PTI.  It's really been fun sharing all of the techniques, ideas and inspiration for cards and projects. Hopefully in 2011 I will be able to try a few more challenges and blog hops.

     Today I have one last set of projects to share from this year's Christmas celebrations.  I wanted to try my new Friendship Jar Holiday Fillers from Papertrey Ink and I had seen a number of Christmas gifts for Snowman Soup, so I combined  those ideas and came up with a card, tag and a mason jar filled with Snowman Soup (hot cocoa mix, marshmallows and milk chocolate chips). I added a snowman mug I found on sale at Michael's and packaged it all in a store bought gift bag (with a snowman image of course!!)

     The Friendship Jar was cut using the co-coordinating die and then stamped with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. The snowman from the Holiday Fillers was also stamped with this ink so that  copic markers could be used for colouring. The little tag was stamped from one of the topper images and then hand cut so that I could attach it to the jar with navy ribbon. Stickles were used to accent the snowflakes inside the jar.
     The card uses a plain white card base and blue card stock that I embossed with the Cuttlebug Snowflake folder. I rubbed the white inkpad over the raised sections of the embossing to give a distressed look. The white felt was cut using PTI's Rick Rack die. White embossing powder was used for the sentiment (from C. C. Designs).   A navy blue pearl was placed inside a little snowflake button to give some added colour.

Here's the tag, jar and mug that finishes off the set. I used the Tag Sale #1 

die to cut 2 tags - one for the snowman image and one for the Snowman Soup 

recipe that is underneath.I used the same details on the tag as I did on the card.

The recipe was printed on my computer and I chose a blue colour for 

printing so that it blended nicely with the background card stock.

      The topper for the mason jar was created by cutting a circle of blue and white fabric and then embroidering a red stitch around the edge with my sewing machine. I added two blue felt snowflakes (cut from Peace Be Still snowflake dies) I added one little embroidered flower to hold them all together. Red ribbon was used to 'tie' everything together!!
